Pivotal Times, Relentless Belief

The Brief

Pivotal Times, Relentless Belief is a one-off sermon at The Vine for Chinese New Year. The goal was to celebrate God and the Chinese New Year together while being grateful to the prosperity God had granted in this turbulent time.

Challenges

I tried to put the bible into the context of Chinese culture. It is essential to translate the Gospel using Chinese elements to convey the power within. I found it interesting to depict the bible using elements from the traditional Chinese culture.

The Solution

Having in mind the traditional Chinese New Year visual, I took out some of those elements and used them in my design. 7 fruits were taken out from the bible to represent prosperity. The 7 fruits were hand drawn into visuals in the shape of circle to resemble the idea of reunion of the family in Chinese festivals. Chinese Calligraphy was used for its power which matches the tone God’s word. Golden texts were suitable too because of the same reason, it adds the atmosphere of Chinese New Year to the design by matching it with red, orange and purple.
