The Brief

Red Letters was a sermon series on the last words of Jesus. The series was scheduled before Easter to prepare congregants for it.

Challenges

Red Letters was a sermon series with seven topics, one topic in each week. Connecting that with the bible had been a challenge, I had to illustrate an abstract concept with its biblical context.

The Solution

I wanted to bring the last words of Jesus closer to the congregants by infusing geometric shapes into artefacts of the crucifixion to convey the topic of the sermon each week. By combining contemporary elements (geometric shapes) and biblical context (artefacts of the crucifixion), I hoped to draw words from the past closer to modern times.

The Posters

When Jesus was nailed on the cross, still, He speaks for humanity despite His suffering. The seven posters are the seven themes He had spoken before He died. I tried to depict the contrast between His words and His suffering. The combination of photos and shapes, and the combination of beige and black resonates with the contrast mentioned. The composition of the poster illustrate the theme each week and the red colour and monochrome photos which symbolise crucifixion connects the series as a whole.
