The Brief

Restoring Brokenness is the theme of Justice Focus 2019. It is a one-day conference that will tackle social issues of current concern and try to produce action based outcomes for it.

Challenges

The concept “justice” is abstract and it is challenging to visualise it. I wanted to create a visual which tells the concept and theme of the event on its own. A visual that speaks for itself.

The Solution

I examined the word, justice, and the title, restoring brokenness, and extracted some characteristic of it. There are several keywords I wrote down to set the tone of my work. Bold, justice is a powerful call; Contrast, justice is a matter of right or wrong; Elegance, restoring brokenness is a process of healing. Having these keywords in mind, I chose white text on black background with a little bit of red to depict the boldness and contrast. A serif typeface was used for the elegance. A typographic approach was used for its boldness. It is an approach that viewers can understand the quickest way. By adding a fading particle effect to the font, I tried to depict the process of restoration in a way that is easy to understand.
